WENDY SPEARS is an acrylic artist from Burlington, NC. Her work is an exploration of the overlooked and the “left behind”. She finds her greatest inspiration along the edges of our streets—specifically in the discarded furniture and roadside relics that have been outgrown or cast aside.
In her series “Curbside Prayers,” she treats these found objects not as refuse, but as vessels of history and humor. Each piece of furniture carries the imprint of the community: the indentation of a seat, the scuffs of life lived, and the quiet dignity of an object waiting for its next chapter. By capturing these items in vibrant acrylics, she aims to elevate the mundane into the monumental.
Her practice is rooted in the belief that beauty isn’t always found in the pristine; it is often tucked away in the weathered corners of our neighborhoods. Through her art, she invites the viewer to slow down, find the wit in the weary, and offer a “prayer” of appreciation for the discarded elements that make our community home.
