NANCY HUGHES MILLER is a North Carolina-based artist whose oil paintings reflect a deep connection to the coastal landscapes of her home state. Splitting her time between the Triangle area and Sunset Beach—near her hometown of Tabor City—she draws lifelong inspiration from the region’s serene beaches and tidal marshes. Working from memory, observation, and imagination, she creates contemporary landscapes that feature still shorelines and calm marshes beneath expansive skies filled with shifting clouds, sunrises, sunsets, and moons. Her work explores the interplay of color and light, shape and form, inviting viewers into quiet spaces where land, water, and sky converge. Rather than depict specific locations, Nancy evokes the subtle beauty and atmosphere of the coast, capturing its essence through bold yet refined compositions. Her paintings offer a meditative experience, revealing the poetry of place through abstraction, mood, and simplicity.
