JD CAMPBELL is an acrylic figure painter from Durham, North Carolina. The focus of Campbell’s art is on the experiences of working class Black people, including their own family. The bold geometry and texture of Campbell’s backgrounds highlight the surreal elements of the Black experience and the social, physical, and financial displacement that permeates Black history. Campbell works hard to make art that nestles among people and comforts them with familiarity.
Campbell currently works out of Antfarm Studios in Raleigh, North Carolina. The 24 year old artist is determined to create work that shows people how the curiosity, passion, and grief that fuel creativity are universally human. We all draw from the same well.
