Join Artspace for 8-weeks of fun and creativity during our 37th year of Summer Art Workshops for rising Grades 1-12!  

Early bird registration opens to Artspace Members on February 5th. Registration opens to the general public on February 19th.

Watercolor Wonders

Join us for a week of colorful exploration where young artists will learn a variety of watercolor techniques and discover which style works best for them. Through hands-on activities, campers will experiment with special papers and materials to create textures and stunning effects that make their artwork truly unique.
Throughout the week, we’ll practice painting fun subjects like favorite pets, delicious foods, beloved toys, and beautiful flowers.

Let's Make a Mess

Sculpture

Join us for a 3D art making camp that is bound to get messy! Young artists will learn about 3D art making techniques and create original sculpture in this hands on camp. This sculpture camp will incorporate all sorts of reusable materials such as foam, cardboard, recycled and found objects, along with model magic and more! This is a perfect fit for the artist who likes to make a mess and enjoys discovering new ways of making art.

Art Monsters

Unleash your inner art monster! Students delve into their imaginations and level up their art skills as they conjure silly to scary(ish) 2D and 3D monster-themed creations. This messy fun journey through Monoprint monster-making, papier mache mask-making, and bringing imaginary spaces and fantastical creature places to life will spark students’ playful curiosity and further their art skills development through dynamic creativity.

Wearable Paper Sculptures
with Sonya Drum (grades 3-5)

Sculpture

Why simply make sculptures when you can become one too? This hands-on, multi-layered class is part paper sculpture, part painting, part collage and part fashion design. Students will harness their imaginations and hone their art skills to create unique and wearable personal art pieces. Turn paper into a playground of color, texture, and creativity. Sculpt yourself into a scrappy superhero, a fashion influencer, an alien aircraft, and more. Your paper studio awaits!

Weave it Wild! Animalia
with Jan French (grades 6-8)

Fiber

Learn the basics of loom weaving and create a 3D creature from the weaving. Campers will select and prepare materials, and then set up and weave on an ancient Peruvian-style backstrap loom. By the end of the week, they will finish weaving, and embellish and sew together a small animal. There will be daily demos on various fiber techniques to try, as well as floorloom operation. Local field trip (weather permitting).

Mini Art Galleries

Sculpture

Step into the role of artist, curator, and exhibition designer as you build your own fully customized mini art gallery! This class is designed for middle school artists ready to explore big ideas and create projects that feel professional and immersive. Students will construct their gallery walls, create original sculptures and artwork, build furniture, and experiment with layout choices that shape how their viewers experience the space.

Oil Pastel Figure Fun
with Macaulay Brumblelow

Drawing

In this class, students will explore many avenues of developing the skills needed to quickly and accurately capture the human form, all through the medium of oil pastels. Adding a pop of color to an exercise that is otherwise tedious and repetitive, learning to work with oil pastels will open up young artists not only to the joy of figure drawing, but to the vibrant world of both classic and contemporary artists working in color palettes one might not think to go for. If you wish to be more daring with your color choices, this is the camp for you.

Fine Art 3D Printing
with CJ Murphy (grades 9-12)

Painting

Students will learn the ins and outs of the 3D printer, a machine that can turn a digital design into a 3D form. Using TinkerCAD, a free online CAD program, students will learn the basics of 3D design and get to make their own unique sculpture. Students will also learn how 3D printing works, and get the chance to interact with and use the machine in an artistic context. A laptop or digital tablet will be required for this class.

Bugs! Plants! Animals! Oh my! During our nature-inspired week, campers will create multimedia art that highlights the magic of nature. Through collaging, painting, and printmaking, each artist will learn the ways that nature teaches us about care, community, collaboration, and playfulness.

Exploring Famous Masters

Get ready to become an art detective and explore the world of famous artists! In this exciting camp, young artists will dive into the history and techniques of renowned painters, learning how they made their masterpieces. Then, it’s time to get hands-on! Students will create their own artworks inspired by famous modern art pieces using similar techniques and styles. Students will create their very own mini masterpieces to take home, and even have the chance to pick their favorite to showcase at our special Summer Celebration exhibit!

Join us as we transform miniature fences into colorful, personality-filled works of art! This class is perfect for young artists who love bold colors, expressive lettering, and experimenting with unique design styles. Students will create a series of interchangeable fence panels—including one featuring their name in graffiti-style bubble letters, one inspired by abstract mural design, and more—building their own mini mural collection to take home.

Expressive Mask Making
with Aleix Murphy (grades 6-8)

Expressive Mask Making invites young artists to explore identity, emotion, and storytelling through the art of mask creation. In this hands-on camp, students will learn about the history of mask making across cultures and time periods, discovering how masks have been used to express emotions, communicate meaning, and sometimes conceal feelings. Through guided discussion and visual examples, campers will examine how artists use facial features, exaggeration, and symbolism to convey mood and emotion.

Weave the People

Abstraction from Reality

In this workshop, students will make abstract collages from printed images of an object of their choosing. Students will learn how to create collages as well as how to use abstraction to communicate feelings and messages.

Knotty by Nature Hats

This workshop will focus on enabling students to create a universal hat form using six fundamental crochet stitches commonly employed in various crochet projects. Through these natural knot structures, students will learn to construct their hats, progressing from the crown to the body, and finally select their desired final hat shape.

We’ll look at how artists like Georgia O’Keeffe and Van Gogh were able to be inspired by the colors and shapes of beautiful flowers. You’ll learn how to draw them, paint them, and even make them into sculptures!

Tell your story! Create a book! In this class, we will be writing and illustrating our own books. We will create characters, a plot, a timeline, write our stories, and create a cover page and illustrations. Painting with Light

Using a unique chemistry and the sun, young artists will capture works of art from nature and other objects that they adore using cyanotype techniques. Students will become experts at the process, and learn to combine paintings techniques with the mind of a photographer. Using natural light to create a series of experimental art pieces, students will leave with a variety of artworks throughout the week.

2.5D Collage

Using a variety of materials, including paint, paper scraps, and other found objects from everyday life, participants will learn to create unique multi-layered artworks that have added depth and dimension. Special attention will be given to composition and form, adhesive techniques, and study of other artists in the field today.

Fashion Design: Develop a Mini Collection
with Amaya Abraham (grades 9-12)

In this weeklong course, students will choose a narrative or idea and translate it into a fashion design. Students will explore personal themes that interest them the most, then use shapes, colors, swatches, and traditional fashion illustration techniques to create design concepts for wearable pieces. By the end of the course, students will walk away with a fully developed collection of concept art that can be added to their portfolio. This class will lay down the crucial foundation to fashion design and all the steps that one should know before they pick up a pair of scissors or a piece of fabric. This class will focus on the conception of ideas and designing and no physical pieces will be created.

Intro to Stylized Character Design
with Khalif Muhammad

In this class, students will learn accessible processes for creating and illustrating their own digital characters. The instructor will guide students through a step-by-step process for illustrating gestures, strong poses, as well as detailed portrait compositions. Young artists will learn about basic human anatomy in order to master their character illustration, as well as learn a thing or two on giving their digital paintings some style. This camp will require that students bring their own digital devices along with a digital drawing software such as Procreate, Clip Studio, Photoshop, Krita etc.

Get ready to make a big mess of colorful fun in our Mark Making Collages camp! Students will create their very own unique papers using cool techniques like printing and stenciling to discover some amazing marks. Then, they’ll mix and match their handmade papers to build a one-of-a-kind abstract collage on canvas! Young artists will brainstorm fun themes in class to spark their creativity and explore endless ways to express cool ideas through vibrant shapes and patterns. By the end, each student will have their very own masterpiece to take home and show off!

Cartoon Color Craziness

Get crazy with mixing assorted colors and experimenting with watercolor paints and traditional drawing mediums, including graphite pencils, acrylic markers, and colored pencils. Once we’ve got that down, we’ll learn techniques on how to draw and paint our favorite cartoon characters or maybe even invent our own! Young artists will go home with a variety of projects throughout the week.

Students transform their own photos into vibrant digital artworks using Procreate and online tools. Remix reality with color, texture, and illustration to create imaginative, layered compositions. A digital drawing device is required for this class, and the Procreate software will be the main program used, but Alternative softwares to Procreate will also work.

This hands-on sculpture class will dive deep into Paper Mâche as a primary art material, allowing students to explore the unique qualities of 3D sculptures. Students will learn how artists make all sorts of portraits and apply that knowledge to create their very own 3D portrait sculpture!

Japanese Notan

In this workshop students will create Japanese Notan designs (asymmetrical, symmetrical, and radial) using iconography and shapes to showcase their identity. We’ll dive deep into the history of this art style and learn about different ways it’s been used in popular culture.

Glitch Lab

Digital

Glitch Lab introduces students to experimental digital art through the creative use of “errors.” Students explore how digital images break, shift, and repeat through accessible glitch techniques such as pixel displacement, repetition, and databending-inspired effects. Rather than focusing on technical perfection, the workshop emphasizes experimentation, rule-breaking, and visual decision-making. Over the course of the week, students will create a cohesive series of glitch artworks and refine one piece into a poster or cover design. This workshop is ideal for teens interested in digital art, animation, and contemporary visual culture.

A playful workshop where students explore the impact of the Harlem Renaissance through music, vibrant colors, and bold silhouettes. Students will learn how to make artworks that can tell stories, uplift communities, and reflect the love of music. Projects include jazz-inspired silhouettes, street scenes, dancing figures, and glowing nighttime color palettes. Processes include shape tracing, color blocking, collage layering, using value to show light, and creating storytelling through simplified figures and rhythm.

Superhero SIlliness

Get silly with creating your own superhero while learning how to use traditional drawing mediums including graphite pencils, acrylic markers, watercolor markers, and colored pencils to explore the fundamentals of drawing. At the end of class, students will take home colorful drawings of a superhero they illustrated that highlight what they learned about drawing and the fundamentals of creating your own cartoon characters.

Exploring Interior Design invites young artists and designers to discover the creativity, science, and intentional decision-making behind interior spaces. In this hands-on camp, students will learn how color, texture, furniture placement, lighting, and scale work together to shape the way a room looks and feels. Campers will explore the principles of interior design while examining how personal style and functionality influence the spaces we live in every day.

Sketch to Style: Fashion Illustration + Design

Using reclaimed and recycled materials, we’ll create large-scale, alien-esque plant sculptures that blue and flora and fauna. Students will work with hand tools, power tools (such as drills), and learn to create armatures and surface treatments.

Learn to create amazing digital art! The workshop would use the following apps: Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio, and Pro Create! Attendees will bring their own computer or tablet. In this workshop we will learn the basics to digital art. We will learn to make line art, add color and effects. And at the end attendees will create a final project that would be printed on a large format!

Immerse yourself in the dynamic world of branding and design! Participants will engage in hands-on projects that include crafting logos, mockups, buttons, and posters while learning essential design principles through fun, interactive activities. Animation is the art of creating images frame-by-frame. Experimental animation is the art of creating images frame-by-frame without using traditional tools. Students in this course will learn about animating without pencils or computers and instead use light and shadow, found objects, the human body, and more!

Portrait Painting

Students will focus on deepening their understanding of the proportions and different planes of the face to create more realistic portraits with paint. Students will also learn to work from a live model, focusing on sighting measurements and angles, light, and color.

Creating Cool Cities

In this camp you will cut, craft, and paint your own 3D buildings! From houses to skyscrapers, we’ll design structures in the style of artist Bodys Isek Kingelez, who built fantastic cities out of ordinary materials such as cardboard tubes, tape, foil, and yarn. At the end of the week, you will combine your individual creations to form a great city of our imagination.

Small Silly Sculptures

We’ll make a series of small and silly sculptures featuring mixed-media and reclaimed materials. With the goal of creating 3-5 smaller works during the week, students will learn how to work with a variety of unconventional sculpture mediums to create fantastical plants and animals.

Engage with the wonderful world of paper arts! Projects include creating collaged boxes, artist trading cards, buttons, and postcards. Stop Motion Claymation

Digital/sculpture

This class introduces students to the magic of animated filmmaking through hands-on storytelling with clay. Students will learn how stop motion works by capturing still images and sequencing them to create movement, while exploring the basics of visual storytelling and cinematic planning. Students will move through the full creative process—from brainstorming and storyboarding to set and character design—using clay and mixed materials. Using personal devices, students will photograph and edit their frames into a completed animation, working independently or in small groups. By the end of the program, each student will finish a short Claymation film that highlights their creativity and storytelling skills!

Build Your Bling - Stamped, Wrapped and Styled
with Hsiang-Ting Yen (grades 6-8)

Jewelry

Make your own jewelry collection! In this class, you will learn how to use jewelry stamping tools to create your own stamped metal cuff bracelet and stamped pendant. You will also design and assemble your own chain to turn the pendant into a necklace. Next, you will use safety pins and colorful beads to build your own bracelet. Finally, we will create “stained glass” wire-wrapped floral stacking rings using metal wire and nail polish. By the end of the workshop, you will have a full set of handmade jewelry pieces of your own design!

Digital Photography + Portraiture

Learn the basics of digital photography! In this class, students will master basic camera skills, composition, and lighting to craft expressive portraits. Throughout the week, students will edit a cohesive mini-series and present it at the Artspace summer exhibition. A digital camera and a laptop/tablet are required.

2D Paper Puppetry

Drawing

Learn to make 2D paper puppets for films, performances, and illustrations! This class will guide students through two types of paper puppetry: illustrative puppets and shadow puppets. Students will practice story concepting, character design, drawing and cutting techniques, and wire joint fabrication to create puppets that can be used in a variety of storytelling contexts.

Join us for a 3D art-making camp that is bound to get messy! Young artists will learn about 3D art-making techniques and create original sculptures in this hands-on camp. This sculpture camp will incorporate all sorts of reusable materials such as foam, cardboard, recycled and found objects, along with model magic and more! This is a perfect fit for the artist who likes to make a mess and enjoys discovering new ways of making art.

Epic Printmaking

Want to create eye-catching art? Don’t just see it in your mind’s eye – come make it! Students in this course take a closer look at how artists use the human eye as inspiration for art across different styles and mediums. From Magritte to Dali to Margaret Keane, students study famous works of art and then shift focus to create their own striking masterpieces using paint and papier mache. Through this exploration of surrealistic works and big eye portraits, your child will see and make art in a new way.

Pack Yourself invites students to explore identity and emotion through a playful suitcase metaphor. Instead of drawing faces, students design a “personality suitcase” filled with objects, symbols, and words that represent what they care about, what they carry with them, and what they hope for. Using drawing and collage, students will create a poster-style composition that transforms self-reflection into visual storytelling. The workshop emphasizes creativity, symbolism, and personal expression in a supportive environment.

Trash to Trinkets is all about repurposing unusual materials to make jaw-dropping, one-of-a-kind creations. This hands-on camp will be packed with fun and innovative crafting techniques using materials you’d never imagine could become art. Inspired by the latest in eco-friendly art practices, young artists will learn how to turn everyday items into something extraordinary. We’ll dive into making chainmail and chain jewelry from soda can tabs, weaving strong, cool cords from plastic bags, and even crafting vibrant pigments and paints from household trash. By the end of the camp, you’ll have a collection of unique artwork and functional pieces—plus the skills to make even more at home.

We’ll be chopping, dyeing, stitching, painting, and more to give old clothes new life!

In this class, students will learn about sustainable processes involving painting, mending, sewing to redesign older wardrobe pieces and give it new life. To gather inspiration, we’ll also focus on other designer’s works and breakdown then apply similar techniques. Students are encouraged to bring any old wardrobe pieces that they wouldn’t mind altering.
