Artspace on the Go, a mobile art van, brings the magic of arts education to children in grades K-12 and their families in underserved neighborhoods. The van tackles inequity in arts access head-on by providing free, artist-led, high quality art education experiences.

Since 1986, Artspace has inspired positive community impact through admission-free exhibitions, four artist residency programs, public access to over 30 studio artists, and no- and low-cost educational activities and community events.
Thousands of children and their families in Wake county might never get the chance to experience high-quality arts education, due to a wide range of barriers. Transportation, time, cost, and racism can all keep people out of the arts. This spring, we’re embarking on a new journey by launching Artspace on the Go, a mobile engagement program to meet children and their families directly in their communities. Our newly-purchased converted cargo van allows our staff to take the magic of Artspace out to both urban and rural communities. We will provide free, artist-led, high quality arts education experiences to those who need it most.
This season, Artspace on the Go will visit community centers, schools, libraries, after school programs, parks, free community festivals, and neighborhood events. Over the next 5 years, we will visit all seventy Title 1 public schools in Wake County, and even branch out into other under-served areas of the Triangle.

What our Partners are Saying
Since spring 2023, my team has collaborated with Artspace to host a series of artist-led workshops with our families. These workshops have been very popular and created additional opportunities for our families to learn a new skill and how to express themselves...Artspace is a leader amongst our local arts organizations in creating a welcoming environment for artists and community members of all backgrounds.
Since fall 2023, my team has collaborated with Artspace to host a series of artist led workshops at the Teen Center. The workshops were very popular with our members and provided over 20 teens with access to art over five weeks at no cost to them.
We enjoyed how welcoming the staff is. They always take care of our group. We also enjoy how most of the studios are open to people to walk in and talk with the artists. The artists seem open to conversations. The space always has new, fun artwork displayed. I like the mix of sculptures and paintings to view. I love that they have accessibility options for all and prioritize that.
