Steve Little

Durham, NC
(919) 296-8120

Steve Little is a multimedia artist who builds interactive machines and organic structures from twisted metal and refuse, intended to evoke memories and emotions. His creations occasionally resemble trees; or include whirring gears and flapping wings, evocative of forgotten dreams from childhood.

Steve is a former newspaper illustrator whose career includes a stint at the Chicago Tribune, as well as numerous awards for his illustrations and infographics. In 1994, Steve left his position at the Tribune for an intended three-year volunteer sabbatical in Latin America. That opportunity led to a new career as the director of Community Mobilization for Habitat for Humanity International in Latin America.

In 2015, Steve returned to his art, applying building and up-cycling techniques he picked up in Latin America, in particular welding with discarded metal pieces, and sewing discarded fabrics into fantastical creations.
