Sarah West earned a certificate in Jewelry Making and Repair from North Bennet Street School and a BFA in Metal Design, Magna Cum Laude, from East Carolina University. In 2011, Sarah was honored with a Niche Student Award in the Conceptual Jewelry category. Her work has been shown at Light Art and Design in Chapel Hill, NC, Equinox Gallery in San Antonio, and will be included in the book, New Earrings, published by Promopress this year.
Sarah’s work resides at the intersection of jewelry and sculpture. The lattice work of bridges, electric towers and the internal architecture of buildings are her inspiration. Overlapping line and shadow with color and imagery, Sarah creates diagrams of emotional landscapes, exposing the geography of memory and history. Her works are maps of the places we have been in our lives and express the embodied strength and fragility when dealing with loss. Like the power lines that intersect the horizon, Sarah’s jewelry and sculptures are architectural landscapes that interact with body and space.
