Recently transplanted to Raleigh, Sandra Kimzey Wimbish expresses her creativity through a variety of mediums: acrylics, colored pencils, graphite, pen & ink, tile mosaics and hand-dyed textiles. Her subjects range from floral to landscape to people to animals.
Her two color series of acrylic canvases play off of angles and lines to bring herds of zebra, tigers and giraffes from the blank slate. Many of her ink pieces involve delicate strokes of pen, layer upon layer, building up texture and intensity. Her tile mosaics flow off of the tile base and outside of its boundaries, playing with color and texture in three dimensions.
Many of her subjects come from her travels around the world, and her intention is to invite the viewer to embrace and celebrate the beauty, mystery and uniqueness of life and culture near and far.
