Jodie Lee

Raleigh, NC

Jodie Lee finds inspiration in nature while walking in the woods or just sitting and watching the waves roll in. Once in her studio, she lets the paints or pastels guide her work. Jodie Lee enjoys painting and drawing and starts each piece with inspiration from of her time visiting the woods and beaches of North Carolina, or her home state, Louisiana, and its beautiful swamps and bayous. Trees found in these environments are often the focus of her artwork. As her art evolves, Jodie Lee is experimenting more with creating without a plan. While the paints are very wet, she blends the colors using sharp edges or forks, sometimes moving the canvas itself to blend specific areas. Different types of paints are blended to create different textures, and varying sheens are used to reflect the light. Not knowing what the end result will be, she focuses on the process and draws from the feeling of being present and connected to her environment.
