Chieko Murasugi was born in Tokyo, grew up in Toronto, and lived in San Francisco for 22 years before moving to the Triangle in 2012. She is currently a full-time painter at Golden Belt Arts in Durham, NC. Murasugi completed a BFA in Visual Arts (York University, Toronto), a PhD in Experimental Psychology, and postdoctoral training in visual neuroscience. Her approach to painting is intuitive and process-oriented with the goal of creating structure and volume within irrational spaces.
