2010 FINE CONTEMPORARY CRAFT EXHIBITION
SUMMARY
You are invited to participate in this year's Fine Contemporary
Crafts exhibition at Artspace in Raleigh, NC. Fine Contemporary Crafts
is a national biennial juried exhibition. Craftspeople and artists working
in a variety of media are encouraged to enter .Applications must be submitted
via CaFÉ™ (http://www.callforentry.org)
by 5 p.m. EDT on Monday, October 4, 2010.

Eligibility
All work must be original. Eligible media include functional or sculptural
works in the following: basketry, ceramics, fiber, furniture (any media),
glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, handmade paper, and wood. Fine art
media such as painting, photography, and lithography are NOT ELIGIBLE
unless incorporated into an otherwise eligible media. Decorated furniture,
candles, pressed flowers, handmade reproductions, and objects made from
commercial kits or commercially available plans are also NOT ELIGIBLE.
Digital images
Each entrant must submit digital images via www.callforentry.org
of up to 2 original works (and may submit a maximum of 2 details total)
that they plan to exhibit in the show. Slides must be labeled with: name,
title, media, dimensions, date of completion, TOP.
Shipping
& Transportation
Entries must be hand-delivered or shipped to Artspace November 16-26 between
10am-6pm (no Sunday deliveries; ring bell on Mondays). All shipping and
transportation costs are the responsibility of the artist. Shipped entries
must be sent in a reusable container. Artists must pay for return shipping.
If accepted, you must either submit a prepaid return shipping label or
email a prepaid shipping label by January 17.
Liability
Artspace assumes the responsibility of insuring and caring for works of
art selected for exhibition while at Artspace according to a contractual
agreement with each artist.Sales
Artspace will retain a commission of 30% of the retail price
of each work sold from the exhibit. Work in the exhibit does not have
to be for sale.

JUROR’S BIOGRAPHY
Alfred Ward was awarded a National Diploma in Silversmithing,
Jewelry, and Product Design from Canterbury College of Art in England.
He subsequently was appointed assistant professor at the University of
London in 1966. In 1974 Ward became the Head of the Department of Silversmithing,
Jewelry, and Allied Crafts at the Sir John Cass College of Art within
the City of London Polytechnic.
Ward moved to the United States in 1981 to teach at the University of
Michigan and the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. In 1985, he became
the Director of the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Tennessee, and in
1989 became the Chair of Art and Design at Winthrop University in South
Carolina. As an internationally known designer in silversmithing and jewelry,
Ward has work in many museums and collections. In 2006 The Victoria and
Albert Museum in London purchased a piece of his silverware for their
permanent collection. His work has also been collected by the Ogden Museum
of Art in New Orleans, the Florida Gulf Coast Museum of Art, and the Washington
State Art Commission.
As a consultant designer, Alfred Ward has worked for Spink and Son Ltd.
London (by Appointment to her Majesty the Queen) and produced pieces for
Revlon of Paris, Margo Fonteyn, Covent Garden Opera House, The Dominican
Republic, Lord Mayor of London, the Saudi Arabian Royal Family, and The
Bishop of Singapore. He was also consultant designer for the Barker Ellis
Silver Company in Birmingham, England.
Throughout his career Alfred Ward has received many design and production
commissions. These have included The American Crafts Council in New York,
the Medal of Honor in the Arts for Andie MacDowell and William Ivey Long,
The Sottile Brooches for the Ten First ladies of South Carolina, and sculptures
for the First Union Bank in Charlotte, North Carolina. He currently continues
to complete commissions, and teaches graduate classes in art and design
at Winthrop University.
