Give & Take

What began four years ago as a casual fundraiser promoted exclusively online has now become a much-anticipated spring event! Artspace hosts a casual spring fundraiser each year to support the Summer Arts Program Scholarship fund. All proceeds raised go directly towards providing 50 talented youths with the opportunity to attend a full-day week-long class at Artspace during the Summer Arts Program.

Last years event featured 35 pieces of artwork for $25 and 50 works for $50, but this year, 3-D works at 10 for $125 and 5 for $250 also rounded out the selection. Each year, the event highlights the public’s response to affordable and accessible art, visible in expressions of attendees’ delight at securing a much-wanted work and disappointment when informed that a desired piece had been sold. Since many of the pieces featured at Give & Take are created specifically for the event, the array of artwork presented is always interesting, engaging, and decidedly unique.

“Give & Take is a wonderful event that continues to draw a great crowd every year. This year we had people lined up waiting to get in two hours before we opened our doors,” said Executive Director Mary Poole. “We are so thankful for the support of all the artists who donated artwork and to our sponsors Progress Energy, The Downtowner, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, and R.A. Jefferies Distributing Company. Without their support this event would not be possible.”

Proceeds from the Give & Take event benefit the Artspace Summer Arts Program Scholarship Fund, enabling Artspace to sponsor up to 50 Wake County art students to attend the Summer Arts Program. These courses allow youth (ages 8 and up) and adults alike the opportunity to work with and learn from a professional artist, and culminate in the completion of a professional-quality work of art.

Scholarships are need-based and selected from nominations by area art teachers. For more information on the scholarship program or to make a donation to the scholarship fund, please contact Artspace at 919-821-2787 or speak to your child’s art teacher.
