Let’s Illustrate OUTER SPACE!

Saturday, March 21
10:30am-1:30pm

Ages: 6th-8th grade
Instructor: Angela Zappala
Tuition & Materials: $40 members/$50 non-members

Amazing and detailed images of outer space are available to us via high-powered telescopes, we just need to use our imaginations to put our own magic into those stars! Join us as we experiment with materials such as acrylic paint, printed images, found objects, gems and our own shadows to create new visions of what might be out there in the mysterious beyond!

Instructor Bio:

Angela Zappala is an artist, arts educator, and works with Artspace as the Education & Outreach Coordinator. She earned her degree from Hunter College and has since lived, studied and made art in New York, Sicily, Rhode Island and North Carolina.

She works in classrooms and as a Teaching Artist at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Angela’s passion for community involvement in the arts has led her to work on several public art projects; the most recent of which was a collaborative mural with Cornelio Campos at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Sculpting Animal Friends

Whether you love dogs, cats, elephants, or parakeets, this is your chance to make a one-of-a-kind forever friend all your own. Using mixed media, we will create beautiful and unique sculptures that your family will treasure!

Build Your Own Book!

Ages: 6th-10th grade
Instructor: Robin Harper
Tuition: $50

Make beautiful blank books of your own design for journal writing, travel diaries, sketchbooks, photo albums, or anything else your heart desires! In this day-long intensive beginner bookbinding workshop, you will create three different kinds of books—the Japanese Stab Binding, the Long Stitch, and the Concertina—each reflecting your unique style. In the process, you will learn techniques that you can use on your own to bind anything you want to save, such as letters, drawings, photos, and recipes. Feel free to bring interesting papers or objects (feathers, photos, postage stamps, beads, etc.) to incorporate into your book.

 

Hula‐Hoop Rugs

Ages: Families, All Ages
Instructor: Amy Masters
Tuition: $30 per family group

Come learn a fun and easy way to repurpose old fabrics. In this one‐day workshop, students will create their very own hula‐hoop rag rug. While learning to weave in the round, students will explore pattern making through various color combinations. All skill levels are welcome. Come have fun with rag rugs!

 

Printmaking: Monoprinting Multiples

Saturday August 1
10:00am-3:00pm

Ages: 6th-10th grade
Instructor: Susan Soper
Tuition: $50

Create your own original stencils! Students will combine their original designs with Monoprinting created with gelatin plates. Type will be added to create their own personalized stationery, monograms and even posters. Students will learn how to use an etching press as well as hand printing techniques. Bring a bag lunch.
