Silk Painting
Grades 3rd-5th grade

Create dynamic, elegant works of art on silk. Using a resist method and special permanent dyes, a large silk scarf will become your canvas for creating fabulous designs. The finished product is an original and wearable work of art that can also be displayed!

Urban Sketching (NEW CLASS!)
Grades 6th-8th

Embark on hands-on journey into the world of urban sketching. Students will gain knowledge of urban sketching techniques and concepts, as well as learn experimental methods to find stories in the places we take for granted. The class will sketch on location around the Artspace/Moore square area using a variety of media using pen, ink, watercolor, rubbings of gravel and asphalt, etc.

Large-scale sculpture: Installation Art (NEW CLASS!)
Grades 7th-10th
Instructor: Leatha Koefler

Immerse yourself in an introduction to installation art. Students will look at what is happening in contemporary installation art and work together to create a large-scale installation to be displayed in Artspace. Using recycled materials students will build a waterfall using recyclable water bottles and/or a nest big enough to tweet from.

Design and create wonderful hand-built pottery using various techniques such as slab construction, coil pots, pinch pots, and clay impression. Students will experiment with colorful underglazes for decoration. Make an animal vase, a whacky mask, an imaginative plate and more!

Soft Sculpture
Grades 6th-8th

Explore 3-dimensional textile techniques like felting and coiling to create unique soft sculptures. Students will look at ancient civilizations using these techniques, as well as contemporary artists for inspiration.
