Mixed Media: Character Creations
Grades 3rd-5th

Create a “cast of characters,” select your favorites and the use these characters to create works of art using a variety of materials and techniques. Watercolor, collage, colored pencils, mixed media and acrylic paints will be discussed and used to give your character a life of its own. During class we will created and bind a sketchbook. For the final project, you will create an original acrylic painting on canvas.
Printmaking: Magnificent Multiples
Grades 6th-8th

Design printing blocks using exciting printmaking techniques! Students will transform drawings into colorful prints that can be turned into an accordion book, notecards, or even a poster. Students will enjoy learning how to print designs by hand, as well as with a modern etching press!
Japanese Textiles: Dyeing and Hand Stitching Fabric (NEW CLASS!)

Explore the magical aspects of indigo and its significance in other cultures. Students will create patterns on cloth using a variety of resist techniques including stitching, folding and wrapping and board clamping. They will begin with making a sankaku bukuro (triangle bag). If time allows, explorations will include other textile products, ie. bandanas, furoshiki (wrapping cloth) or a banner.

Mixed Media: Sensational Cityscapes
Grades 3rd-5th

Cities are magic spaces that reflect mood, atmosphere, culture and diversity. Students will examine the visual elements of a city and create cityscape drawings, paintings and collages. Mixed media explorations are encouraged and students will explore both realistic and abstract city interpretations. As a culminating activity, students create their own found object 3D city assemblage.
Bookmaking: Color Exploration (NEW CLASS!)
Grades 6th-8th

Explore color through various projects that will culminate in a series of handmade books. Students will study color through a series of exercises using collage, watercolor, tempera paint, paper weaving and marbled paper.
Painting: Encaustics
Grades 7th-10th

Explore a unique style of art-making. Students will learn the encaustic style of painting, which involves the use of melted wax to create beautiful artworks.
