Portfolio Development (Grades 10-12)

Artspace portfolio development classes are designed for students grades 10-12 who are working towards building a portfolio for college submission and scholarships. Portfolio Development classes are only offered in the afternoon, 1-4p.

Session 1: June 15-19

Sculpture Intensive Assemblage *

Grades 10-12

In this week long intensive students will explore assemblage art. Students will learn about forming composition, selecting a theme and style, storytelling through the arrangement of reuse materials, and construction craft. Students will create a variety of small assemblage studies and at least one portfolio ready work.

Drawing Intensive*
Instructor: Peter Marin
Grades 10-12
REGISTER
Students will work on developing the foundations of drawing, including line, form, value, and perspective. In doing so, students will be pushed to build on the basics of drawing, learning to develop intuition and explore personal sensibilities to begin constructing a personal drawing vocabulary. Students will create a variety of small drawing studies and at least one portfolio ready work.

Mixed Media Intensive *

Grades 10-12

In this week long intensive students will explore 2D mixed media art. During this time students will work on skills to develop their understanding of mixed media by learning and experimenting with composition, material context, and storytelling through visual language. Students will create a variety of small studies and at least one portfolio ready work.

Drawing Intensive: Self Portraits*

Through the medium of drawing students will learn how to create a unique portfolio ready self portrait that expresses their personal identity and style.

Session 5: July 20-24

2D Design Intensive * 
Instructor: Ivana Milojevic Beck
Grades 10-12
REGISTER
Students will learn to create a strong composition practicing application of the fundamental elements and principles of 2D design. Students will create a variety of quick studies to develop a wide range of solutions for successful composition while exploring an array of media and complete at least one portfolio ready work.

3D Design Intensive *
Instructor: Ivana Milojevic Beck
Grades 10-12
REGISTER
Students will gain knowledge of various sculptural processes and materials while learning to demonstrate elements of 3D design and how to interpret and employ design principles such as balance, scale and proportion, and movement and rhythm. Students will create at least one portfolio ready work.

Painting Intensive: Portrait Painting with Oils * 
Instructor: Alia El-Bermani
Grades 10-12
REGISTER
In this class students will learn the basics of oil painting while building an understanding of the human head. Students will examine proper proportions, structure and basic anatomy as well as use multiple drawing and painting techniques to represent the portrait. Painting techniques covered include various ways to begin an oil painting, simplifying the head and color mixing. Students will complete at least one portfolio ready work.
