Process + Product

*Artspace does not offer tours or the Process & Product program during the Summer Arts Program*

This program is designed for school groups of any age. For an effective tour and participatory art class, we recommend a maximum of 30 students per visit, if you anticipate a larger number of students, please contact us so we may accommodate you. Please bring a minimum of 2 ADDITIONAL CHAPERONES to accompany students and assist with the project.

Plan to spend 2 hours and 15 minutes at Artspace, 10:15am-12:30pm. It is very important to arrive on time! Each student will participate in a 1 hour guided tour and a 1 hour art class. Your class will be divided into 2 groups, with one half touring the studios and exhibits and the other half participating in an art project.

The cost is $6 per student. A limited number of scholarships are available for students in need of financial assistance. Class visits will be scheduled for 10:15am-12:30pm.

Full scholarships for Title I Public Schools

Due to a generous donation, Artspace is currently able to provide a limited number of full scholarships to attend our Process + Product Field Trip Program. Scholarships are available to Title 1 public schools in Wake County and provide financial assistance for up to 80 students per school. Scholarships are currently being awarded on a first come first serve basis. Contact Brittany Carlson to learn more at bcarlson@artspacenc.org. * Transportation costs are not covered *

Pick your activity

By exploring cross curricular projects and diverse media with professional artists, students learn that there are many ways to solve the same problem. Hands-on art making integrated with traditional STEAM subject matter gives students the creative confidence to tackle all their learning goals.

BATIK: Adapt a Lesson!

This classic Artspace project can be adapted to any aspect of your curriculum from Social Sciences to History. Students will paint with hot wax, then with various colored dyes on cloth. Their finished paintings will represent their creative interpretations of the chosen subject matter.

This activity integrates art with Math curriculums. Students will explore patternmaking and learn to create their very own unique artwork. Using fun printmaking techniques and simple materials, students will be able to continue printmaking at home with the skills that they learn.

VISCOSITY + POROSITY: The Science of Abstract Painting

This activity integrates art with Science curriculum. Students will create three small paintings exploring the color wheel, blending and experimenting with different surface porosities. Learn what happens when materials react to create unexpected works of art.

Students learn the history of Artspace, about the exhibiting artists and their work, and interact with studio artists to expand their understanding of the creative process. Artspace docents and staff are focused on creating inclusive, collaborative discussions and providing students the opportunity to engage with our exhibitions through sensory elements and gallery interactives.

Field trip organizers should preview the exhibitions to assure the content in each gallery is appropriate for your group. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Education + Outreach Manager, Brittany Carlson bcarlson@artspacenc.org
