Ulinski was born in Indonesia and lived in Africa, Asia, and Europe before settling in the US. For 30 years he has worked in Raleigh as a studio furniture maker. Reflecting his diverse background, his woodwork ranges from the sleekly functional to the sculptural. He began the formal study of oil painting in 1993. He has exhibited his work in museums and galleries throughout the US.
