FRESH Artist Profile: Colin Murasko

FRESH Feature

Find out more about Colin Murasko, one of 27 artists juried into the FRESH exhibition at Artspace.

My current body of work transitions from a former concept of line which dealt primarily with vertical and horizontal planes of color, to a more gestural, curved set of linear elements that intersect within the piece.

Whether representational or abstract, I enjoy working towards an idea – sometimes with a series in mind. However, as each piece develops, I have learned and accepted for my process to motivate and inspire each mark. In doing this, I am giving way to my original idea to be malleable. In the end, the “success” of my work is not to recreate the preliminary image in my mind, but the act of abstraction that takes place along the way when creating it.

Since graduating with his Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from Claremont Graduate University in 2004, Colin has maintained an active studio practice with both juried and group exhibitions that have received reviews in both periodicals and online art blogs. His exhibition record includes shows juried by world renowned art critics and curators with two of his most recent accomplishments being selected to show in the 28th Annual International Exhibition on the University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery and exhibiting in a group show with the Page Bond Gallery in Richmond, VA.

In 2014, Colin, his wife, Hannah, and two boys, Simon and Micah, relocated to Raleigh, NC where he works in his studio and teaches full-time as a Visual Art Instructor at the Saint Mary’s School.

Fun Fact!

I collect indigenous rocks, minerals and/or precious stones from my travels. But, I am in no way an expert on them.
