Scaped I

Since moving to Raleigh last summer, the Artspace Regional Artist in Residency has been vital for me to get plugged into the local art community. Through conversations with other artists that have done the residency and having a space to put my work out on First Fridays, I have connected with a lot of people. And entering into dialogue with visitors that have a range of experiences with art has helped me to better frame my practice.

Saving the Lost

While in residence, I have started on two new sculptures and two videos. The most recent is a large installation work that will be at CAM Raleigh this summer. It is a kinetic piece that will involve sod, digital prints, and motors. It takes several sketches and renderings of a project before I start on it, but the finished work is always altered by the responses and encounters I have to the object I am making. I switch back and forth between projects often, while glue dries on one project I’ll edit and when my video is rendering I go back to my sculpture work. If you are interested in seeing notes, sketches and in progress photos, I encourage you to check out the blog on my website.
